A new integrated grinding ball induction heating machine focusing on hot rolling and forging processes has been officially put into full operation. This turnkey line adopts medium frequency induction heating as the core thermal unit, realizing automatic feeding, blank heating, hot rolling or forging forming, quenching, tempering and finished sorting in one continuous workflow. Targeting mining, cement and thermal power grinding markets, it fills the demand gap for high-performance forged and rolled grinding media and improves local supply capacity of wear-resistant steel balls. Compared with separated single machines, the linked layout reduces manual intervention and supports stable batch production round the clock.

The production line supports two mature forming routes to adapt different diameter ranges. For medium and small-size balls, the hot rolling station delivers high efficiency, good roundness and consistent dimensional tolerance. For large-size high-impact grinding balls, the forging module enhances internal metallographic compaction, lowering the risk of breakage under heavy grinding load. Operators can switch process parameters via the central PLC according to steel grades and customer requirements. Both routes rely on precise preheating by induction furnace to avoid overheating, burning loss and surface decarburization that commonly occur in traditional flame heating.
Formed steel balls are directly conveyed to the induction quenching and tempering section without cooling down. The medium frequency IGBT power supply provides adjustable heating energy for uniform austenitization before quenching. Closed-loop infrared temperature monitoring stabilizes quenching and tempering temperatures. This well-matched heat treatment procedure helps finished balls obtain balanced hardness and impact toughness. Internal stress is fully released, so the steel balls feature low wear rate and long service life in ball mill working conditions.

Online size detection, hardness sampling and surface defect inspection stations are arranged along the line. Unqualified products will be automatically eliminated before packaging. The whole line can produce alloy steel, medium chromium and high chromium grinding balls covering common specifications. The continuous operation mode greatly shortens production cycles and cuts the rate of defective products caused by unstable temperature and irregular forming. Each batch can provide complete process records for quality traceability, which satisfies strict standards for export orders and large mineral processing groups.
Induction heating has high thermal efficiency and high power factor. It generates no open flame, little smoke and low noise. Metal oxidation loss is obviously reduced versus coal-fired or gas heating furnaces. The circulating cooling water system with filtering and temperature control reduces water waste. Harmful emissions are kept far below environmental limits, helping grinding media manufacturers achieve green production transformation.

At present, many mining and cement customers prefer forged and hot-rolled steel balls over cast balls for better anti-breaking performance. The newly commissioned line strengthens the supplier’s competitiveness in both domestic and overseas markets. The technical team will continue optimizing rolling speed, forging rhythm and heat treatment curves. Later, intelligent data collection modules will be upgraded to realize real-time production monitoring, predictive maintenance and further cost control for grinding media manufacturing.
