Precise temperature control and fixed-point strengthening | The new generation of Steel Pipe Induction Heating Furnace special equipment for local quenching has been officially put into operation

Recently, China’s professional pipe heat treatment equipment R&D center officially launched a new-generation dedicated steel pipe induction heat treatment furnace for partial local quenching. The equipment is specially designed for targeted strengthening treatment of key pipe positions, including pipe end threads, welding grooves and high-pressure force-bearing joints. It effectively solves typical drawbacks of traditional integral furnace heating, such as high energy consumption, overall pipe deformation, base material toughness loss and heavy oxide scale. The new furnace only heats the required local area while keeping the rest of the pipe original mechanical performance. It has been officially put into mass production for oil gas pipelines, hydraulic precision steel pipes and engineering pressure pipe batches with full standard compliance.

The local quenching furnace is equipped with independent zoned closed-loop induction temperature control modules. It fits steel pipe outer diameters from φ20mm to φ350mm and wall thicknesses from 2.5mm to 35mm, compatible with carbon steel, alloy structural steel and pipeline steel. The targeted heating temperature is precisely controlled at 840℃—890℃ with temperature deviation within ±3℃, ensuring no thermal impact on non-treatment areas. The matched rotating feeding speed ranges from 4.5m/min to 11m/min with synchronous spray cooling. The local hardened depth is adjustable from 2mm to 15mm, and the surface hardness steadily reaches HRC42—HRC50, greatly improving wear resistance, compression resistance and thread tear strength without pipe deformation.

Adopting medium frequency induction heating power supply design, the equipment saves over 26% energy compared with traditional integral quenching furnaces. The fully enclosed internal heating structure avoids large-area oxidation and decarburization, raising material utilization rate. Multiple safety interlock protections including over-temperature self-lock and water pressure linkage ensure safe unattended 24-hour continuous operation. It connects seamlessly with existing production lines without civil renovation. With one-click local quenching parameter storage, it guarantees ultra-high inspection qualification rates, fully promoting efficient, low-cost and eco-friendly upgrading of the pipe heat treatment industry.
